Pune: Wanawadi Police Raid Café On Salunkhe Vihar Road For Illegal Hookah Supply; Four Booked
In a swift crackdown on illegal hookah operations, the Wanawadi Police on May 10, 2025, raided The Spicy Floor Café and Cloud Kitchen, located on the second floor of Super Mall, Salunkhe Vihar Road, Wanawadi, Pune, and booked four individuals under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Maharashtra Amendment) Act, 2018.
Acting on a tip-off received during routine patrolling, Police Sub-Inspector Dhanaji Tone along with Police Constables Amol Pilane and Abhijeet Chavan verified the information and informed Senior Police Inspector of Wanawadi Police Station. After confirmation, a team led by PSI Tone conducted a surprise raid at the café.
During the raid, the team found the following individuals in possession of and selling tobacco-based hookah and related items:
- 1. Narayan Magar Thapa (33), resident of Shivnerinagar, Lane No. 15, Kondhwa, Pune
- 2. Chandankumar Shrivan Rai (22), of The Spicy Floor Café and Cloud Kitchen, Salunkhe Vihar Road, Wanawadi, Pune
- 3. Inayat Majid Salla (52), resident of Bhagyodayanagar, Kondhwa, Pune
- 4. Javed Malik Sheikh (42), resident near Poona College, Goolibar Maidan, Camp, Pune
The police seized hookah apparatus and flavored tobacco worth Rs. 3,215 from the premises in the presence of panch witnesses. A case (Crime No. 198/2025) has been registered at Wanawadi Police Station under Sections 4(a) and 21(a) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Maharashtra Amendment) Act, 2018. The accused were issued notices under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
The investigation is being led by PSI Dhanaji Tone.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police, East Region, Pune City, Manoj Patil; Hon. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 05, Pune City, Dr. Rajkumar Shinde; and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Wanawadi Division, Dhanyakumar Godse.
The raid team included Senior Police Inspector Satyajit Adamane, Police Inspector (Crime) Govind Jadhav, PSI Dhanaji Tone, Assistant Police Officer Ramesh Sable, and Police Constables Daya Shegar, Amol Pilane, Abhijeet Chavan, Amol Gaikwad, Balaji Waghmare, Gopal Madane, Vishnu Sutar, Yatin Bhosale, and Somnath Kamble.
