Pune: Wanowrie Police Catch Mobile Theft Gang Red-Handed During Palkhi Procession, Recover Stolen iPhone
Pune, July 12: The Wanowrie Police Investigation Team apprehended a gang of mobile phone thieves red-handed during the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi procession on Friday after they allegedly targeted devotees taking part in the Ashadhi Wari.
According to police, the accused took advantage of the large crowds and the devotees’ distraction to steal mobile phones from their pockets in the Vaiduwadi area. Acting swiftly, the investigation team caught the suspects in the act and recovered a stolen Apple iPhone worth approximately ₹40,000 from their possession.
The main accused has been identified as Tejas Rajesh Gunjal, a resident of Upper Indiranagar, Pune. Two juveniles in conflict with the law were also detained in connection with the offence.
Wanowrie Police have initiated the process of registering a case against the accused and are verifying their criminal antecedents to ascertain whether they were involved in similar thefts in the past.
Senior Police Inspector Pandit Rejitwad of Wanowrie Police Station said further investigation is underway.
