Pune: Residents of Kothrud area in Pune are facing a severe water shortage, with no water supply for the past two days. The situation has left the residents irked and frustrated as they are forced to cope with the lack of basic necessities.

According to locals, the water supply has been stopped without giving prior notice to the citizens. As there is no communication from the authorities  the residents are left without any assurance of when the water supply will resume. The water shortage has affected daily life in the area, with residents struggling to carry out their routine activities. Many are forced to rely on private water tanker services, which are both expensive and unreliable.

“We have been facing this problem for the past two days. There is no alternative arrangement by authorities. We have to buy water tankers for our housing societies, and even then, we are not sure when the water supply will resume,” said Surekha Kulkarni, a resident from Dahanukar Colony.

The area facing water woes are Mayur Colony, Dashbhuja Ganpati Mandir area, Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital area, Gosavi Wasti, Happy Colony, Anand Niketan Society, Dahanukar Colony, Natraj Society,Sahawas Society, NavSahyadri Society, Kulshri Society, Thorat Colony, Kshipra Society, Suvarnaratna Society, Kothrud Gaothan area, Rahul Nagar, Ganesh nagar, Mhatre Pool, DP Road area and Vitthal mandir area.

The situation is particularly challenging for households with young children and the elderly, who require a regular supply of clean water. The lack of water has also impacted the sanitation facilities, with toilets and bathrooms remaining unusable.

Local activists and community leaders have demanded immediate action from the authorities to resolve the issue. “The authorities need to take urgent measures to address the water shortage in Kothrud. The residents are suffering, and their health and wellbeing are at risk,” said Mukund Kothankar, resident of Kothrud Gaothan area.

Kedar Vaze, ward officer said, “There is main water supply line repair work going on at Anand Niketan Society at Karve Nagar area. Hence water supply in the area likely to be affected on 13 and 15 May. We request people to co-operate for the same.”
