Pune, June 20, 2026: A potential disaster was averted at a petrol pump in Warje Malwadi after a water tanker caught fire while refuelling with diesel on Saturday.
According to officials, the incident occurred at Vardhaman Petrol Pump, located adjacent to a church in the Warje Malwadi area. The water tanker had arrived at the fuel station to fill diesel when its engine suddenly developed a mechanical fault and caught fire.
Petrol pump staff acted swiftly and attempted to control the blaze using ABC-type fire extinguishers available on the premises. Their prompt response helped contain the fire until firefighters arrived at the scene.
Upon receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Warje Fire Station rushed to the spot.
Firefighters used a hose reel to spray water and successfully extinguished the fire before it could spread to other vehicles or fuel storage facilities within the petrol pump premises.
After bringing the blaze under control, the fire brigade personnel moved the tanker away from the petrol pump area to eliminate any further risk and prevent a possible escalation of the incident.
Officials confirmed that the fire was completely extinguished and the area was secured before the fire team returned to the station.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and a major mishap was successfully averted due to the timely response of the petrol pump staff and fire brigade personnel.
