Pune Weather Update: Cooler Days In May, Warmer Nights Ahead; Monsoon Likely To Reach Andaman By Third Week
Pune, May 2, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its latest weather outlook for May, indicating a mixed trend across Maharashtra and other parts of the country. While the intense heat experienced in April is expected to ease, night-time temperatures are likely to remain higher than usual, leading to increased discomfort.
According to IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, changing weather patterns influenced by western disturbances and pre-monsoon activity in southern India are expected to bring more cloud cover and above-average rainfall in several regions. As a result, daytime temperatures in most parts of the country, including Maharashtra, are likely to stay at or slightly below normal levels. However, higher minimum temperatures may result in warmer and more humid nights.

The monthly forecast suggests that, except for regions like Konkan, parts of central Maharashtra, and Marathwada, most areas in the state could see slightly lower maximum temperatures. At the same time, night temperatures are expected to remain above average in many regions except Vidarbha. Certain districts in central Maharashtra from Dhule and Nandurbar to Kolhapur and Sangli may continue to experience more heatwave days than usual.
On the monsoon front, IMD’s extended outlook indicates that the southwest monsoon could advance into the Andaman and Nicobar Islands between May 14 and May 21, slightly ahead of its normal schedule of May 22. The onset over Kerala is typically expected around early June, and a more detailed long-range monsoon forecast is likely to be released later this month.
