Due to an increase in temperature and humidity, the city has been experiencing summer-like heat for the past two weeks. However, on February 21, the state is expected to experience another round of chills as the northern cool winds have resumed their entry into Maharashtra. Pune will also see a drop in the lowest possible temperature, perhaps as low as 10 degrees Celsius. However, according to representatives of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this will likely be the last significant drop in temperature for this season.

A senior IMD Pune official said that in the past, Maharashtra’s weather was influenced by several weather systems that were active over various regions of the nation. This comprised a trough line connecting the northeastern region and the cyclonic circulation, western disturbances over the north-northeast and northwestern regions, and a cyclonic circulation over central Maharashtra and the surrounding areas. Maharashtra was being shielded from the chilly winds by all of these systems. Consequently, the state experienced a milder cold snap. In addition, there was some light rainfall during this time in certain parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada.

But as of right now, the state is experiencing perfect weather, and on February 21st, clear skies will allow colder winds from the north to blow into the state.

Another senior IMD Pune official said that clear skies and northern winds moving into Pune and north-central Maharashtra over the next few days will result in a brief drop in temperature. The temperature will drop by about three or four degrees Celsius. The temperature in Pune is expected to drop by three to four degrees Celsius, reaching almost 10 degrees Celsius or just below. That might be the final decent drop in the lowest temperature.

In the meantime, the minimum temperature in the city has already begun to drop over the past two days. Shivajinagar recorded a temperature of 15.5 degrees Celsius earlier on February 18; on February 20, it dropped to 13 degrees. The highest temperature has also somewhat decreased, falling by one degree Celsius over the previous twenty-four hours. The district’s lowest temperature has already fallen to 10 degrees Celsius in some places. The minimum temperature was 10.9 degrees Celsius in Haveli tehsil, 11.1 degrees Celsius in the Shirur and NDA areas, and 11.8 degrees Celsius in the NDA area.
