90% say they still get spam calls daily even after joining the “Do Not Disturb” list: LocalCircles

According to a recent survey conducted by LocalCircles, a significant majority of respondents reported receiving spam calls on a daily basis, with a majority of these calls relating to financial services and real estate offerings. Despite being registered on the “Do Not Disturb” (DND) list, around 90% of participants stated that they continue to receive bothersome calls from individuals promoting financial services, real estate projects, and various other products. The survey, which collected responses from 60,000 individuals across 378 districts, revealed that 90% of respondents receive between 1-2 pesky calls daily, with a small percentage receiving over 10 such calls per day.

Moreover, despite efforts by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in recent years, the situation regarding spam calls has not significantly improved, as confirmed by the experiences of the surveyed individuals. The survey also highlighted a noticeable increase in the frequency of calls from different mobile numbers, rising from 29% in February 2023 to 36% in February 2024.

Among the identified sources of these calls, 40% of respondents pointed to a leading listed non-banking financial services firm as the primary source, followed by pesky calls from a leading listed private sector bank. Additionally, nearly half of the surveyed mobile subscribers (48%) reported receiving the majority of pesky calls from various mobile numbers that appear to belong to individual callers. These findings underscore the persistent challenge posed by spam calls to consumers, despite regulatory efforts aimed at curbing them.
