Pune Weather Update: Minimum Temperature Surges 12° In 3 Days Due To Cyclone Fengal
Pune experienced a significant rise in minimum temperature, climbing 12° in just three days, from 9.7°C on Saturday to 21.7°C on Tuesday. Weather experts attributed this sharp increase to the remnants of Cyclone Fengal impacting the region.

According to Abhijit Modak, an independent weather forecaster, “Remnants of Cyclone Fengal have started affecting Maharashtra. Pune’s minimum temperature saw a steep climb due to a well-marked low-pressure area over the Arabian Sea off the Mangaluru coast.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the low-pressure system over coastal Karnataka and the east-central Arabian Sea had moved westward and was expected to continue its west-northwest trajectory, impacting weather patterns in parts of the state.
The IMD has reported that the low-pressure area, a remnant of Cyclonic Storm FENGAL, over north interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining south interior Karnataka, has moved west-northwestwards and developed into a well-marked low-pressure area over coastal Karnataka and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea as of 5:30 AM on December 3. It is expected to continue moving west-northwestwards over the east-central Arabian Sea in the next two days.
Similar trends were observed across parts of Maharashtra, with Solapur recording a minimum temperature of 23.6°C, 7.1° above normal. Ahilyanagar recorded a minimum of 22.4°C, 10° above average, while Shivajinagar saw a minimum temperature of 21.7°C, 9° above normal.

Modak explained that moist southeasterly winds have replaced dry northeasterly ones, leading to warmer nights. Mangaluru recorded 156mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, fuelling moisture-laden winds into parts of Maharashtra.
The IMD reported that minimum temperatures are markedly above normal (5° or more) at most places over Telangana, Odisha, and parts of Punjab and Maharashtra.
