Pune Weather Update: Unseasonal Rain and Hailstorm Alert Issued for Maharashtra

Pune, March 22: The weather in Maharashtra has been witnessing continuous fluctuations, with an unseasonal rain alert issued for several regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of thunderstorms and hailstorms in parts of the state, bringing relief from the heat but raising concerns over crop damage.

In the last few days, temperatures across Maharashtra have been fluctuating significantly. Just a week ago, scorching heat was being experienced, but now, the weather has turned cooler. Unseasonal rain has already lashed Chandrapur and Latur, and IMD has predicted more rain in the coming two days. However, no heatwave warnings have been issued for any part of the state.

Hailstorm Alert for Vidarbha and Marathwada

IMD has specifically warned of hailstorms in several Vidarbha districts, including Amravati, Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, and Yavatmal. Similarly, Marathwada districts such as Nanded, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Latur are also likely to experience unseasonal rain. While this will bring cooler weather, concerns over potential crop damage persist.

Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Expected

According to the weather department, parts of South-Central Maharashtra and Marathwada may experience thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds at speeds of 30-40 kmph, and light to moderate rainfall. However, Mumbai, Pune, Solapur, and coastal Konkan regions are expected to witness stable weather conditions. The Konkan region, though, may continue to experience warm and humid conditions.

Meteorologists predict that the weather will remain cloudy across the state till March 25. However, Nashik and Khandesh regions are unlikely to experience unseasonal rain. Changes in wind patterns over the Bay of Bengal and Madhya Pradesh have contributed to these weather fluctuations. In early March, temperatures in some Maharashtra cities soared to 40°C, but a significant drop in temperature has now been recorded.
