Pune : Well-equipped public toilet to come up in Balewadi High Street area ; funds will be given by PMRDA

A public toilet in the Balewadi High Street area was demolished some time ago as it was obstructing the Metro line. However, after re-planning, a public toilet with well-equipped facilities will be constructed by the Pune Municipal Corporation. Funds will be made available from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) for constructing the toilet.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sandip Kadam, Deputy Commissioner, Solid Waste Management Department, PMC “The public toilet project had to be stopped as there were land-related issues. But now, the appropriate budget is getting ready for the public toilet project. The PMRDA has also promised funds of Rs 45-50 lakh for the project. It will be built in Balewadi High Street area. As of now, a tender is released regarding the construction of the project after which further procedures will begin.”

As per further information, following are some of the facilities in the public toilet:

·         Provision of 10 seats in toilets (four for women, four for men, one for disabled, one for transgenders)

·         One washbasin in each toilet

·         Three urinals,

·         Hand dryer

·         Sanitary napkin vending machine

·         ATM facility

·         Ramp for disabled

Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine will allow the used napkins to be disposed of scientifically. This is going to be an important step in order to not harm the environment. Space will also be available for advertisements here, from which income will be generated, which will be used only for the upkeep & maintenance of the public toilet.
