Pune’s Water Woes Eased: Khadakwasla Dam Chain Project Fills To Brim
The Khadakwasla Dam Chain Project, which supplies water to Pune city, has reached its full capacity, bringing relief to the city’s water needs. All four dams in the project – Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon, and Temghar – are now filled to the brim.
According to the latest data, the dam chain has released 29.98 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic) of water into the Mutha river so far. The current water storage in the dam chain stands at 28.84 TMC, which is 98.92% of its total capacity.
The dams’ fill-up is attributed to the heavy rainfall in the catchment areas in June, July, and August. The region received substantial rainfall in the last two weeks of July, and August saw heavy downpours, filling up the dams.
Dam-wise Water Storage:
- – Khadakwasla: 87.00%
- – Panshet: 100%
- – Varasgaon: 99.54%
- – Temghar: 100%
- – Total: 98.92%
With the dams full, water has been released into the riverbed, ensuring a steady supply to Pune city. This development is expected to alleviate the city’s water concerns, providing relief to residents and civic authorities.
The filled dams will cater to Pune’s water needs for the coming months, ensuring a stable supply during the ongoing Ganeshotsav festivities and beyond.
