Quit Phone for 3 Years! IAS Officer Neha Byadwal's Remarkable UPSC Journey of Discipline, Focus, and Self-Made Success
Raised across states, Neha’s unwavering discipline and decision to quit her phone for three years led her to secure AIR 569 in the UPSC exam.
Neha Byadwal’s story is a powerful reminder that discipline and purpose can defy all odds even in the age of distractions. Born on July 3, 1999, in Jaipur, Neha was constantly on the move due to her father’s transferable job. Her schooling spanned several states, starting in Jaipur and continuing through institutions like Kidzee High School, Bhopal; DPS Korba; and DPS Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh.
Neha was consistently a high-achiever in academics and went on to become a university topper at DB Girls College, Raipur, where she completed her graduation in History, Economics, and Geography. Studying in a diverse cultural environment deeply influenced her worldview and fuelled her ambition to create a unique identity through public service.
Though she cleared the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) exams multiple times, Neha never took up a government post, her ultimate aim was always the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). With this in mind, she initially moved to Delhi for coaching but later chose to return to Raipur and prepare through self-study.
One of the most defining aspects of her journey was her decision to completely give up her smartphone and social media usage for three years. This rare commitment allowed her to focus entirely on her preparation. On her fourth attempt in 2021, she secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 569 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, scoring 960 marks including 151 in the interview.
At just 24 years old, Neha was recruited into the IAS in August 2022 and is currently posted as Joint Magistrate in Jalaun district, Uttar Pradesh. Her dedication and methodical study routine have resonated with aspirants across the country. She now uses her Instagram account, which has over 80,000 followers, to share motivational content and study tips, helping others navigate the difficult UPSC path.
Neha Byadwal’s journey is not only a story of academic brilliance but also of inner resolve. In a digital age where distractions are constant, her decision to disconnect became her greatest strength. Her message is clear: consistent effort, focus, and self-discipline are still the most powerful tools for success.
