Railway Ticket Booking Gets Major Change: UTS App To Shut Down From March 1
Railways asks passengers to shift to RailOne as the new single official platform for ticket booking and wallet services.
Indian Railways is set to introduce a major digital change for daily commuters, as the popular UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) mobile app will stop functioning from March 1.
The Railways has announced that passengers will now need to use the RailOne super app for booking general and platform tickets, recharging the R-Wallet, and accessing multiple railway-related services in one place.
Officials said the move is aimed at providing passengers with a single integrated platform instead of multiple separate apps.
The Railways has also advised users to shift to RailOne as early as possible to avoid disruption in ticket booking. Importantly, passengers who download or update the latest version of the UTS app will no longer be able to book tickets or recharge wallets through it.
However, Railways clarified that the balance available in a passenger’s UTS R-Wallet will remain completely safe and can be used seamlessly through the RailOne app. The wallet amount will not expire or be lost during the transition.
RailOne is expected to offer several features for travellers, including booking of reserved, unreserved, and platform tickets on the same platform. It also provides multiple secure payment options such as UPI, debit and credit cards, net banking, and R-Wallet.
Apart from ticketing, RailOne will also allow passengers to check live train status, delays, coach position, and platform details. Services like PNR status tracking, ticket cancellation, refund requests, and complaint registration through RailMadad are also integrated into the app.
Additionally, passengers will be able to order meals during travel through IRCTC-authorised vendors.
The UTS mobile ticketing system was first launched on December 27, 2014, starting with Mumbai suburban railways, before expanding to major metro cities and later the entire Indian Railways network.
With UTS now being phased out, RailOne will become the Railways’ only official unified mobile platform for ticketing and related passenger services from March 1.
