Ranveer Singh has become the latest victim of the menace sweeping the industry.

Ranveer Singh, the acclaimed Bollywood actor, has taken a bold step against the spread of misinformation by filing a complaint with the Mumbai Police’s Cyber Crime Cell. The action comes in response to a disturbing incident where an AI-generated deepfake video surfaced, depicting Singh endorsing a political party.

As an official FIR has been registered in this case, Ranveer Singh made his first public appearance. Watch:

The fabricated video emerged following Singh’s recent appearance in Varanasi, where he graced the ramp for designer Manish Malhotra alongside Kriti Sanon. While the video appeared authentic at first glance, it featured an AI-synthesized voice impersonating Singh, expressing political views critical of Prime Minister Modi’s governance regarding unemployment and inflation.

Singh, known for his candor, addressed the issue directly on his Instagram Stories, cautioning his vast following of over 47.2 million about the perils of deepfake technology.

In a succinct warning, he wrote, “Deepfake se bacho doston (Friends, beware of deepfakes).”

The actor’s spokesperson confirmed the legal action, stating, “Yes, we have filed the police complaint, and an FIR has been lodged against the handle that was promoting the AI-generated deepfake video of Mr. Ranveer Singh.” This move underscores Singh’s commitment to combatting misinformation and protecting his image from exploitation.

This incident echoes a similar occurrence involving superstar Aamir Khan, who faced a deepfake video controversy promoting a political agenda. Khan’s team swiftly clarified his stance, emphasizing his non-involvement with any political party endorsements throughout his illustrious career. They reiterated Khan’s dedication to raising awareness through authorized channels, such as Election Commission campaigns.

As deepfake technology continues to evolve, celebrities like Ranveer Singh and Aamir Khan are taking proactive measures to safeguard their reputations and combat the spread of fabricated content in the digital realm.
