In the rural village of Rudawal in Bharatpura, Rajasthan, a farmer has cultivated an astonishing variety of radishes, capturing the attention and curiosity of locals.

Hariram Sharma, the farmer behind this unusual harvest, has witnessed an extraordinary production of radishes in his field, attracting people from near and far. The size and weight of these radishes are anything but ordinary, with each radish weighing between 11 to 15 kilograms, a stark contrast to the typical weight of 40 to 45 grams for regular radishes.

Sharma shared with local media that while regular radishes usually weigh around 40 to 45 grams, the ones in his field are significantly larger, weighing between 11 to 15 kilograms. Additionally, their size measures between 2 to 3 feet.

These gigantic radishes are currently being sold in the market for 30 to 35 rupees per kilogram. Sharma explained that he planted hybrid radish seeds in his field, anticipating a good harvest. However, the extent of their size and weight was beyond anyone’s imagination.

The uniqueness of these radishes goes beyond their impressive appearance; they also stand out in terms of taste. Sharma mentioned that the flavour of these radishes is excellent, making them suitable for various culinary uses, such as preparing parathas and salads. Due to their substantial weight, it requires the assistance of two people to uproot these radishes from the field.

Sharma emphasizes that the fertile soil in the region contributes to the overall quality of the produce, making it distinctive and appealing to those who come to witness these extraordinary radishes in person.

Last year, traditional farmer Gyandev Netke experimented with a new approach by planting radishes alongside peanuts on his two-and-a-half-acre field. The results were outstanding. A small section of radishes yielded remarkably well, with one radish weighing over five kilograms. Gyandev’s innovative farming methods caught the attention of many.
