Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein” Returns to Theatres: Dia Mirza and Madhavan Reflect on Film’s Rocky Start, “Shayad Picture meri wajah se nahi chali”
The beloved Bollywood film “Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein” (RHTDM), which originally premiered in 2001, has made a nostalgic comeback to theatres after 23 years. Released on August 30, the film has been met with enthusiastic responses from fans who have turned out in large numbers to revisit the classic.
To celebrate the re-release, lead actors Dia Mirza and R Madhavan reunited virtually for an Instagram Live session, taking fans on a sentimental journey down memory lane. The conversation revealed both the challenges and the enduring appeal of the film. During their chat, Dia reminisced about the film’s challenging shoot, saying, “We were travelling from one place to another for 14-18 hours, constantly going from one place to another. We would often catch up on our sleep on the flight. The film was also shot that way – in South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and Mumbai The film’s release date was announced before we finished the bhaag daud..”
Dia also shared her heartbreak over the film’s initial failure at the box office. She recalled Madhavan’s optimism, remembering him saying, “It is a very special film and it will really connect with the audience.” Despite the initial setback, Dia acknowledged that the film’s charm has endured. “People may not have made it to the theatres, but then they have made time for it over and over again, over the years and given it so much love,” she said, visibly emotional.
Madhavan, reflecting on the film’s journey, noted how they had second-guessed their efforts at the time. “There are times when you feel what was our shortcoming. It was our first film and we had sincerely worked on it,” he said. He expressed surprise at the film’s continued popularity, stating, “It’s been 23 years now, and for 23 years, the film has been aired on some TV channel or the other. It is there on OTT platforms too and people have watched it somewhere or another. But now, when I see houseful shows, even after all that, I am confused as to why people want to pay money to watch the film!”
“Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein,” directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon and also starring Saif Ali Khan, tells the story of Maddy, a charming young man who falls for a woman already engaged to someone else. His pursuit of love, filled with both deception and genuine affection, has captivated audiences with its memorable soundtrack and engaging storyline.
As the film graces the big screens once more, it continues to resonate with fans, proving that some classics never truly fade away.
