Replica of Pune’s Iconic Dagdusheth Ganpati Immersed in Phuket Sea — A First-Ever Ganpati Visarjan in Thailand
Ganesh Chaturthi, the heartbeat of Maharashtra, found a historic new home this year in Thailand. For the first time, a replica of Pune’s revered Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati was installed and ceremoniously immersed in the sea at Phuket, marking an unprecedented cultural milestone abroad.
The event was held at a newly built 50-foot temple, modeled after Pune’s 130-year-old Dagdusheth Mandir, situated opposite Rawai Beach in southern Phuket. The grand structure, named Lord Shreemant Ganpati Bappa Temple, is the brainchild of Thai entrepreneur Papa Son Mipa, CEO of Phuket 9 Real Estate Company Limited. Built at a cost of nearly ₹9 crore over 15 months, the temple houses not only the replica idol but also Siddhi Mata, Buddhi Mata, and a panchadhatu Ganesha, replicating the sanctity of the original shrine.
The replica idol, shipped from Pune on October 22, was immersed in the waters off Phuket with blessings and support from the Shrimant Dagdusheth Ganpati Trust. Trust treasurer Mahesh Suryawanshi confirmed the historic ceremony, calling it a spiritual bridge between Maharashtra and Thailand.
With this milestone, devotees in Thailand can now experience the divine aura of Dagdusheth Ganpati without traveling to Pune — a testament to how traditions rooted in faith and devotion transcend borders.
