Viral clip of Rajasthan Royals captain allegedly vaping during match raises questions over IPL code of conduct and strict stadium rules.

Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag has landed in controversy after a video showing him allegedly vaping inside the dressing room during an IPL 2026 match went viral. The incident reportedly took place during Rajasthan Royals’ clash against Punjab Kings, with teammates Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yudhvir Singh Charak and Kuldeep Sen also present nearby.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken note of the video and is expected to seek an explanation from Parag. A senior official indicated that vaping is not permitted within stadium premises, and further action will depend on the player’s response.

The issue goes beyond just optics. IPL guidelines clearly prohibit smoking and vaping inside stadiums, except in designated smoking zones. Dressing rooms and dugouts fall under restricted areas where such activities are not allowed, making this a potential breach of the league’s code of conduct.

There is also a larger legal context in India. Under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019, e-cigarettes are banned nationwide, including their production, sale, and use. Violations can attract penalties, including fines and even imprisonment. While enforcement varies in different situations, the presence of such strict laws adds seriousness to the controversy.

Within cricketing rules, even if vaping is not explicitly detailed in every clause, broader health, safety and conduct guidelines apply. Players are expected to maintain discipline inside controlled environments like dressing rooms, and any violation can invite fines or disciplinary action.

This is not the first time IPL regulations have been enforced strictly. Earlier this season, a team official was fined for using a mobile phone inside the dugout, underlining how closely match-day conduct is monitored.

The controversy comes at a time when Parag is already under scrutiny as Rajasthan Royals’ captain. Despite a strong team performance, including a recent win over Punjab Kings while chasing a big total, Parag’s individual form has been inconsistent this season.

As of now, neither the player nor the franchise has issued an official statement. The focus now shifts to the BCCI’s next move, which could set a precedent on how such incidents are handled in the league going forward.
