Road Safety Alert: Viral Video Highlights the Danger of Overtaking Trucks in Close Proximity
For every driver, road safety is a top priority. Among the many components of safe driving, being aware of the limitations of big vehicles, such as trucks, and using indicators correctly are crucial.
As per further information from an X handle Road Safety Guy “Never overtake so close to a truck as truck drivers have large blind spots around their vehicle. Also, an ‘indicator’ is just an indication to other vehicles. We still need to be careful. An indicator does not give us a right to change lanes at will.”
Indicators
The purpose of an indicator is not to claim the right of way, but rather to let other drivers know what you intend to do. Making sure the turn or lane change can be made safely is very important.
Many drivers believe they automatically have the right to change lanes just because they turned on their indicator. This misconception can result in unsafe behaviour, particularly when driving close to big cars like trucks.
In addition to using the indicator, make sure there is enough space, check your mirrors, and evaluate the flow of traffic before changing lanes. Recall that an indicator provides information, not orders.
Blind Spots
The blind areas, also known as “No-Zones,” are found on the truck’s sides, back, and front. A car or other smaller vehicle goes into these zones and is invisible to the truck driver.
Trucks have large blind spots because of their size. These are the regions surrounding the car where the driver can see very little or nothing at all. These blind spots are far more extensive for trucks than they are for smaller cars.
Even if a truck driver spots an irresponsible driver and tries to brake, the effect of the brake will be felt a few moments later, which may be too late, because trucks have a much longer stopping distance than cars. Truck drivers’ lack of professional training and poorly maintained vehicles fuel the flames.
Whenever you pass a truck, especially one that is approaching too fast, you run the risk of ending up in one of these blind spots. Because the truck driver might not see the vehicle that is overtaking, there is an increased risk of accidents.
The goal behind this article is to encourage drivers to adopt a culture of safety and awareness. Everyone must remember that following and obeying traffic rules is about protecting lives, especially your own, rather than just staying out of trouble or paying fines.
