The state school education department has announced the commencement of the registration process for Right to Education Act (RTE) admissions, slated to begin next week. The guidelines prioritize admissions for students interested in RTE at aided schools, government schools, and local self-government schools located within a 1km radius from their residence.

Sharad Gosavi, the state director of primary education, confirmed the initiation of the registration process, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the outlined priorities for RTE admissions.

Under the revised RTE Act, access to English medium schools for economically and socially backward students becomes limited, posing challenges for their admission.

Parents are provided with the flexibility to choose between local body schools, government schools, or aided schools as per their preference. However, in cases where no such schools exist within a 1km radius, admission in self-financing schools within the vicinity is permitted under RTE guidelines, as stated by Shantanu Pranjape, a parent involved in RTE admission affairs.

In exceptional scenarios where no government, aided local body, or self-financed school is available within a 1km radius, admission within a 3km radius is considered on a priority basis.

Admission eligibility requires the child to be over 6 years old, and previous beneficiaries of RTE admissions are ineligible to reapply. The circular issued by the education department emphasizes accurate information submission, as any discrepancies may lead to the cancellation of the child’s admission.
