In a heartwarming Instagram reel, Iuliia shares how Indian quirks have become her everyday normal

A Russian woman living in Bengaluru has captured the internet’s attention with her Instagram reel listing things she finds absolutely normal in India, despite many outsiders often labeling them as ‘cringe’. The video, posted by content creator Iuliia (username: @yulia_bangalore), is a warm and humorous take on cultural integration and the beauty of adjusting to new traditions.

In her caption, she writes, “Here’s my list of absolutely normal things for yours #russianindian,” and goes on to describe six key aspects of Indian life that she has embraced:

Living with in-laws: For Iuliia, staying with her husband’s parents is a blessing—especially since she admits she doesn’t manage household tasks much herself.

Eating with hands: She now prefers eating with her hands and even highlights that it’s scientifically proven to enhance taste.

Being fashionably late: A delay of 15–20 minutes no longer fazes her. “I’m super okay with it,” she says, as long as meetings are planned accordingly.

Negotiating everything: From business deals to daily purchases, she calls negotiation in India a “superpower” and says it has taught her a lot about effective communication.

Having house helpers: What felt strange at first now feels convenient, as she recognizes the human tendency to seek ease and admits to enjoying a bit of laziness.

Speaking Hinglish: She’s already catching meanings in Hinglish and is determined to learn Hindi fluently within a year or two.

She also hints at her love for masala chai and the romanticism deeply woven into Indian films and everyday conversations.

The reel has garnered over 43,000 likes and hundreds of comments. Most users praised her open-minded approach and her refreshing perspective on Indian culture. One comment read, “Love your points. While many complain about in-laws, there are some gems who don’t pass on generational trauma.” Another user added, “Sorry to say, but you are treated differently because you’re not Indian by birth.”

Despite mixed reactions, Iuliia’s video has sparked a broader conversation about cultural acceptance, modern Indian families, and how foreigners sometimes appreciate local traditions more freely than natives themselves.
