Amidst reports of Khadakwasla dam running out of water in summer, the Sajag Nagrik Manch has requested Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar to reserve 7.5 TMC of water for Pune. It is worthy to note that Pune requires 5.25 TMC of water by July, while there are currently 9.4 TMC of water reserves.

“People are afraid that there will be water shortages after the elections,” says the President, Vivek Velankar of Sajag Nagrik Manch. He has requested Ajit Pawar to direct the Water Resources Department to reserve the said water amount for the city.

Pune has a monthly water consumption of 1.6 TMC. It will be necessary to use about 5.25 TMC of water by July 31. In the next three months, a quarter to a half TMC of water may evaporate due to summer. Half TMC of water must be released for the Palkhi in June. In addition, neighbouring localities such as Daund will have to be provided up to 1.5 TMC circulation for drinking in May.
