Pune: Maharashtra Medical Education Minister, Hasan Mushrif, inaugurated the special ward at Sassoon Hospital for transgenders in Pune to integrate transgender people into mainstream society. To facilitate this, the renowned Sassoon Hospital has established a dedicated ward exclusively for transgender patients. Previously, transgender people had to face significant challenges in receiving appropriate medical treatment due to the absence of such specialized wards.

As per the information provided, this ward has 24 beds and two additional ICU beds. This new facility aims to provide safer and more accessible healthcare options for transgender individuals who have been facing numerous health issues.

Earlier, the successful implementation of a similar ward at GT Hospital in Mumbai was announced, and there are plans to establish such wards in every district of the state. Additionally, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken steps to employ 10 transgender individuals as security guards, to promote inclusivity and transform public perception towards transgender individuals. By taking these measures, Pune is taking significant strides towards creating a more inclusive society.
