Pune, April 14 : The scorching heatwave continues to grip Pune and its neighboring regions as temperatures soar to new highs. Today, Pune experienced a mercury surge, with temperatures peaking at 39.9 degrees Celsius. Pimpri-Chinchwad, not far behind, recorded a scorching 41.5 degrees Celsius.

The heatwave is not confined to Pune alone; West Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha are witnessing fluctuating maximum temperatures. Adding to the discomfort, hailstorms have been lashing Vidarbha and Marathwada for the past two days, exacerbating the weather woes for residents.

According to the Meteorological Department, the rising temperatures are expected to persist throughout the month, with the likelihood of heatwaves. The dry atmospheric conditions are contributing to cool mornings followed by sweltering afternoons.

In Pune district, Lavale registered the highest temperature at 41.8 degrees Celsius, while Lavasa reported a comparatively cooler 35.4 degrees Celsius.
