Pune, January 24, 2026: Pune Airport has significantly stepped up its security arrangements ahead of the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations, with authorities implementing a series of enhanced measures to ensure the safety of passengers, aircraft, and airport infrastructure.

As part of the heightened security protocol, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has deployed additional Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) at strategic locations in and around the airport premises. These teams are conducting intensified foot and mobile patrolling to maintain constant surveillance and respond swiftly to any untoward incident. Security presence has also been increased in sensitive areas within the terminal buildings.

To further strengthen access control, intensive checking of vehicles and passengers is being carried out at all approach nakas leading to the airport terminals. These checks are aimed at preventing unauthorized entry and ensuring that only verified individuals and vehicles are allowed near restricted zones.

In a major preventive step, compulsory Secondary Ladder Point Checking (SLPC) has been implemented for 100 per cent of flights with effect from January 20, 2026. This additional layer of security screening will remain in force until January 30, 2026, covering the entire Republic Day period. Authorities said this measure is intended to enhance aircraft security and minimize potential risks.

Surveillance in and around the airport has also been upgraded, with closer monitoring of airport perimeters and public areas. Security arrangements at the Cargo Terminal have been reinforced to safeguard consignments and prevent any security breaches. Additionally, monitoring and access control of ground handling staff and other airport personnel have been intensified to curb any unauthorized movement within operational areas.

Meanwhile, a special security coordination meeting was held involving all key stakeholders. During the meeting, agencies were advised to remain on high alert, enhance vigilance, and adopt all necessary precautionary and preventive measures. Officials reiterated that these steps are being taken to ensure a safe, secure, and seamless travel experience for passengers during the Republic Day celebrations.
