Sending Obscene Messages: Pune Teacher Arrested for Sexually Harassing 13-Year-Old Student
A 42-year-old school teacher in Pune, Maharashtra, was arrested on Thursday night for allegedly sexually harassing a 12-year-old student and sending her obscene messages. The teacher had been on the run after the allegations surfaced, according to the police.
The incident came to light when the girl’s father, whose daughter is a Class 7 student, lodged a complaint with the police. The father reported that the teacher had inappropriately touched his daughter and sent her explicit messages. Based on his complaint, the First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Thursday.
The teacher has been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 75 (sexual harassment) and Section 74 (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty). He is also facing charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The Pune rural police are currently investigating whether the teacher had also harassed other female students at the school. “The incident came to light after the 12-year-old girl told her father about the sexual harassment by the teacher. The father confronted the teacher a couple of days ago, after which the teacher was on the run,” a senior Pune rural police officer stated.
The crime is believed to have occurred over a span of 10 days before it was reported to the authorities.
