Shah Rukh Khan and Aditya Chopra lock Pathan 2 script, to begin production end of 2024
In a much-anticipated development, Shah Rukh Khan is set to reprise his role as Pathaan in “Pathaan 2,” marking his return sooner than expected.
According to a report, Yash Raj Studios, under the helm of Aditya Chopra, has finalized the script for “Pathaan 2,” with production scheduled to commence by the end of 2024.
“Pathaan 2” is poised to become the eighth installment in the YRF Spy Universe, following the success of films like “Ek Tha Tiger,” “Tiger Zinda Hai,” “War,” “Pathaan,” “Tiger 3,” “War 2,” and “Tiger Vs Pathaan.” Notably, “Pathaan 2” will precede the much-anticipated clash between cinematic legends, “Tiger Vs Pathaan,” adding an exciting twist to the YRF Spy Universe timeline.
The decision to craft “Pathaan 2” as a standalone franchise within the Spy Universe was influenced by the overwhelming response and demand from the audience, especially after “Pathaan” emerged as a blockbuster.
Released in January 2023, the film achieved the remarkable feat of crossing the coveted ₹1000 crore milestone at the box office, establishing Shah Rukh Khan’s character as a compelling R&AW agent leading the JOCR division to combat terrorism.
The film also featured Deepika Padukone as ISI agent Rubina and John Abraham as a soldier-turned-terrorist, with a special role played by Dimple Kapadia.
A source revealed, “Pathaan 2 is being designed as the tentpole spy film of the universe that will set things up for a more extensive conflict in the times to come. It will establish the next phase of YRF Spy Universe’s timeline, setting the stage for the significant showdown between Tiger and Pathaan in the future timeline, known as Tiger vs Pathaan.”
While Shah Rukh Khan has yet to officially announce his next project, he is reportedly collaborating with his daughter Suhana Khan on “King.”
On the other hand, Deepika Padukone is gearing up for her next venture, “Kalki 2898 AD.” As fans eagerly await the cinematic spectacle of “Pathaan 2,” the YRF Spy Universe continues to unfold with promising developments on the horizon.
