PUNE: The introduction of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj flyovers at Gadital was envisioned to alleviate traffic congestion spanning from Hadapsar Gadital Chowk to Solapur Road and the route towards Saswad. However, the extension bridge’s construction over the initial structure has weakened both, necessitating frequent closures for repairs.

Amidst this scenario, Shiv Sena City Chief Pramod Nana Bhangire has penned a letter to Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, proposing the construction of a flyover from Fatima Nagar to Manjri Phata as a lasting solution to the traffic woes plaguing Solapur and Saswad roads.

According to available information, National Highway No. 65 is a pivotal artery connecting Pune to Machchali Pattanam, traversing four states: Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. However, the bridge along this route has shown vulnerabilities, necessitating recurrent closures for repairs and subsequently leading to persistent traffic snarls.

To address this issue, Bhangire has put forth a suggestion for the Highway authority to establish a flyover linking Fatima Nagar to Manjri Phata (Solapur Road) as a strategic remedy for the consistent traffic congestion on Solapur Road.

Bhangire has shared that Gadkari has responded affirmatively to this proposition, assuring swift attention to the matter. In light of the damages inflicted upon the Hadapsar bridge by the Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram flyovers, Pramod Bhangire, the Shiv Sena City Chief, has urged Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to dismantle the flyover and replace it with a bridge.

The Hadapsar bridge’s deteriorated girder bearing has compelled its closure, alongside concerns about its low height, posing hazards for heavy vehicles that frequently collide with bridge pillars. To mitigate these risks, cement barricades have been positioned at intervals along the pillars. Nevertheless, these barricades hinder the smooth flow of vehicular traffic on the road.
