Shocking !! Bomb threat received to 13 schools in Chennai, police says it is hoax 

On Wednesday 8th February, 2024, multiple private schools in Chennai in the greater Chennai Police Limits received bomb threats via email causing tremendous panic amongst students and children. These schools were located in Gopalpuram, Parry’s Corner, Anna Nagar, Raja Annamalai Puram, Nandambakkam and Royapettah.

On receiving bomb threats, a few schools decided to close up early and informed parents to collect their children from school.

After investigation, it was revealed that no bomb was found at any of the schools and the email threat to all the schools turned out to be a hoax.
The City Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore ordered police personnel to conduct a thorough investigation in all schools which received bomb threats. Bomb Disposal and Detection Squad (BCCS), GCP and sniffer dogs were sent to conduct searches.

The police said, that if any such calls/emails of threats are received in future, the schools are requested not to cause panic and to continue with the normal functioning of the school and to inform the police immediately by dialling emergency numbers 100/112.  

Additional commissioner of police, Prem Anand Sinha said “We have launched an investigation to trace the perpetrator and take criminal action. The motive of the emails is yet to be traced. In the emails, there is no demand for the schools or us for now.”

It is said that strict legal action will be taken against those who sent threatening emails to the schools. The investigation to find those who sent the mail continues and more information will be revealed soon.
