Shocking !!! PMPML records 161 bus accidents in 15 months

Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) has recorded a significant increase in the number of bus accidents from April 2022 to July 2023. As per information, a total of 161 bus accidents occurred in just 15 months raising serious concerns about the safety of the passengers.
It is worthy to note that out of the total number of accidents, 65 incidents involved buses operated by PMPML vehicles while 96 accidents involved buses run by private contractors.
One of the most recent accidents occurred on August 1 during a huge collision between two buses on the Pune Ahmednagar Road, in which 29 people (17 men, 8 women, 2 bus drivers & 2 bus conductors) were injured. The crash involved an e-bus from a private contractor and a CNG bus from the PMPML.
Because the data shows a higher number of incidents, both major and minor, involving contractual buses than PMPML-owned buses, the transport body’s management is looking closely at the contractors’ practices.
