Pune, June 29, 2026: Fresh details have emerged in the investigation into the alleged murder of Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal, with investigators claiming that his fiancée, Siya Goyal, allegedly took nearly ₹1 crore from him for wedding preparations and later transferred the money to co-accused Chetan Chaudhary.

According to investigators, the money was given by Agarwal to fund wedding shopping and related expenses. However, the probe alleges that the amount was instead handed over to Chaudhary to support his business ambitions and help him achieve financial stability.

Alleged Long-Term Conspiracy Under Investigation

Police suspect that the accused had planned the alleged murder well in advance. Investigators claim the duo had discussed a long-term plan under which Goyal would remain unmarried for nearly three years after Agarwal’s death to avoid suspicion. During this period, Chaudhary was allegedly expected to establish his career before the two eventually got married.

Officials believe this timeline was intended to reduce public scrutiny and gain acceptance from Goyal’s family once the case had faded from public attention.

Police Probe Alleged Murder Plot

According to the investigation, police believe the accused used a pre-decided signal during their visit to Lohagad Fort on June 18. Investigators allege that Goyal was to sit down—either to drink water or under the pretext of tying her shoelaces—as a signal for Chaudhary to allegedly push Agarwal into the gorge.

Police further claim the signal was carefully planned to ensure Goyal remained at a safe distance, preventing her from being pulled toward the edge if the victim attempted to hold onto her while falling.

Travel Route and Phone Records Under Scrutiny

Investigators have also alleged that Chaudhary travelled nearly 90 kilometres from Pune to Lohagad Fort on a scooter instead of a car in an attempt to avoid detection through toll plaza surveillance. The scooter has since been seized as part of the investigation.

The probe has also focused on mobile phone records. According to investigators, call detail records indicate that Goyal allegedly spoke to Chaudhary around 30 minutes before the incident. Police are examining the call as a possible final communication before the alleged execution of the murder plan.

Earlier Attempt Also Being Investigated

Investigators are also probing claims that an earlier attempt to kill Agarwal was allegedly made on June 14 but failed after he managed to save himself by grabbing nearby vegetation. Police allege the incident was subsequently explained away as an accidental fall caused by the presence of a snake.

The accused, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary, are currently under arrest and face charges of criminal conspiracy and murder. The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations are yet to be tested during the trial.
