'Sorry mummy...': Delhi boy jumps off metro station, blames teachers in suicide note
A 16-year-old Class 10 student in Delhi tragically took his own life at Rajendra Place Metro Station on Tuesday afternoon, leaving behind a suicide note that blamed his teachers for ongoing mental harassment. The boy, who had been looking forward to attending his drama club session, jumped from the platform at 2:34 pm and was rushed to BLK Hospital, where he was declared dead.
According to police, the suicide note named certain teachers and detailed the prolonged distress he faced at school. The note also expressed his wish to donate his organs and urged that no other child endure the same suffering.
The student began the note by identifying himself and asking the reader to call a phone number. He wrote about being constantly scolded and emotionally pressured by school staff, which pushed him toward taking this extreme step. Apologizing to his parents and elder brother, he also requested that his organs be donated.
“Sorry bhaiya, for all the time I was rude to you,” he wrote to his brother. To his mother, he said, “Sorry mummy, however many times I broke your heart, I am going to do it for the last time.” He expressed gratitude to his parents and remorse for not being able to do more for them. The note concluded with his appeal to help others through organ donation:
“Give my organs to those in need. If any organs are still functioning after the fall, please donate them. My school is only like that. My last wish is that action be taken against them. I don’t want any other kid to go through this.”
The boy’s father revealed that his son had been facing harassment at school for several months. “He used to tell me and my wife that teachers scolded him for every small thing and emotionally hurt him. We complained verbally many times, but they never stopped,” he said. He added that they refrained from taking stronger action as the Class 10 exams were approaching, stating, “His exams were due in one or two months. Twenty marks come from the school. I did not want to disturb anything.” The family had planned to transfer him to a different school after the exams.
On the day of the incident, the boy’s parents were in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, for his mother’s surgery. At school, he participated in a drama club session, during which he reportedly slipped and fell. His father said a teacher pushed him, insulted him in front of peers, and accused him of overacting. The boy was left in tears, with no concern shown by the teacher.
Classmates also reported that some teachers had threatened the boy with a transfer certificate and frequently involved the parents over minor issues. Three to four other students reportedly faced similar harassment.
Despite these challenges, the boy had recently taken part in a dance competition and had a strong interest in exploring theatre and dance further. He was also performing fairly well academically.
Following the incident, the father filed an FIR alleging that the boy was under severe mental stress due to repeated harassment by multiple teachers. The FIR stated that the deceased had frequently spoken to his parents about being insulted and emotionally troubled by certain staff members, despite several verbal complaints to the school administration.
