Police say the minors were under severe mental stress; investigation continues into circumstances leading to the incident

A tragic incident in Ghaziabad has left a family and neighbourhood in shock after three minor sisters died by suicide after jumping from the ninth floor of their residential building. A suicide note recovered from the spot contains the words, “Sorry, Papa… I am really sorry,” a message that has deeply shaken their father and relatives.

According to police, the incident took place late Tuesday night at Bharat City Society in the Tila Mod police station area of Sahibabad. The girls were rushed to a hospital after the incident but were declared dead on arrival. The matter came to light early Wednesday morning, triggering panic among residents of the society.

Investigators said a handwritten suicide note was found, in which the sisters asked their father to read everything written in a diary, claiming it reflected their “true life story”. The note reportedly ended with an apology to their father and included a crying emoji, which officials say points to intense emotional distress.

Police officials stated that preliminary investigation suggests the girls were deeply influenced by Korean culture and were heavily involved in online gaming. While no specific mobile application has been named, investigators confirmed that all three sisters were addicted to online games. The family had reportedly restricted their mobile phone usage, and the father had asked them to purchase their phones only a day earlier.

“The family was present in the house at the time of the incident but was asleep. A suicide note has been recovered and is being examined carefully. The case is under investigation from all angles,” police said.

Further inquiry revealed that the sisters had discontinued their studies after the COVID-19 pandemic and had increasingly withdrawn from regular routines. Officials are also looking into their prolonged exposure to online content and gaming, as well as the impact of social isolation following the pandemic.

The family had shifted to the Ghaziabad housing society around three years ago after earlier living in Delhi. Police said the household included the father, his two wives, a son and the three daughters. After the incident, only the son and parents remain. The son is reportedly undergoing treatment for mental health issues.

Authorities have urged parents to stay alert to signs of emotional distress in children and adolescents, particularly related to excessive screen time and social isolation. Counselling support is also being discussed for affected family members and residents.
