Thane, June 2024: In a historic upgrade, the Thane railway station has successfully completed the widening of Platform 5/6. The project involved increasing the platform width by 2-3 meters over a length of 587 meters.

Key highlights of the project include:

Widening of Platform 5/6: Expanded by 2-3 meters across a 587-meter stretch.

Construction Materials: Utilized 750 pre-cast hollow blocks for efficient and durable construction.

Manpower and Coordination: The project saw the collaboration of 400 laborers, 20 teams, and 10 contractors.

Efficient Execution: Despite the complexity of the work, there were zero delays and minimal disruption, with 935 train cancellations managed efficiently.

The project was carried out in conjunction with the NI work at CSMT, one of the busiest coaching terminals of Indian Railways. This dual undertaking highlights the meticulous planning, precision, and timely execution by the workforce.

The massive block, which began at midnight on Thursday, caused significant disruptions to suburban services on the main corridor of Central Railway, impacting thousands of commuters. However, the short-term discomfort is expected to yield long-term benefits.

Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, stated, “This block will be beneficial for long-distance travelers as we can now run trains with 24 coaches, which were previously limited to 18.”

This upgrade is a significant step forward in improving the capacity and efficiency of train services at Thane station, enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers.
