Pune: Tension erupted at the management council meeting of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) on Monday when members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest. The ABVP members alleged that an obscene rap song was shot on the university campus, and the Vice-Chancellor failed to take any action against it.

The ABVP protesters, who gathered outside the meeting hall, raised slogans against the Vice-Chancellor and demanded his resignation. They also demanded that the pending examinations of the students be completed on time and that the convocation ceremony be conducted without any further delay.

A representative of ABVP, who spoke to the media, said, “We are ashamed that the Vice-Chancellor is sitting on the same chair today after allowing an obscene rap song to be shot on the university campus. The Vice-Chancellor did not take any action when he should have. It has been 70 days, and the examinations of the students have not been completed on time.”

The protesters claimed that they had protested in a constitutional way and denied vandalizing the university. However, broken glass was seen on the floor of the hall where the management council meeting was taking place.

The university management has assured that the pending examinations of the students will be completed on time, and the convocation ceremony will be conducted at the earliest. The university has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.

The incident has sparked concern among the students and faculty members of the university. Many have criticized the ABVP’s methods and called for a peaceful resolution to the issue. The university authorities have appealed to the students to maintain peace and harmony on the campus and not to indulge in any activities that disrupt the academic environment.
