Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will now take strict action against persons who live in the SPPU hostels illegally or without admission or identification. 

Rahul Sasane, PhD student & student leader, SPPU, said “All students, taking admission at the university, only should get hostel accommodation. No student should be deprived of education due to lack of hostel. Along with this, if persons, who are not admitted in any department of the university, are living in the university hostels, action should be taken against them. That means there will be no injustice on the students who have officially taken admission.”

As per further information from an SPPU letter accessed by Pune Pulse,

·         People are living illegally/without admission in the hostels in the university premises.

·         In the past, while taking action in this regard from time to time, the security department has provided proper facilities and security guards of the university, security personnel of MSF.

·         At the time of this action, the rector of the respective hostel should be present in person and keep the list of the names of the students in the rooms allotted to the students.

·         Security personnel and officers of the Security Department will be present with them. At least two days advance notice should be given to the security department while taking this action. Therefore, it will be convenient to provide adequate security by proper planning.

·         In a meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Pune, Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Registrar on 6th February, 2024 and 7th February, 2024, the Commissioner of Police has informed that the staff of the police station will be present if the police are given a prior idea during such action.

·         In the past, the University administration has been informed about taking appropriate action against the students staying illegally / without permission in the hostel and reporting the report to the police station.

·         However, considering the seriousness of the matter, it is requested that appropriate action should be taken.
