Sri Lankan Airlines Ad Celebrates Ramayana Heritage, Drawing International Praise – Watch Video
Sri Lankan Airlines’ advertisement promoting the Ramayana Trail has received widespread acclaim for its depiction of locations linked to the epic Hindu tale. The five-minute ad, which showcases the journey through iconic spots associated with the Ramayana, has captured the attention of viewers on social media.
The ad begins with a grandmother telling her grandson the story of the Ramayana from a children’s book. When the grandson asks about the island where Ravana took Sita after her abduction, the grandmother explains that the kingdom of Ravana was in present-day Sri Lanka. “All the places in the Ramayana are real. Today we know Lanka as Sri Lanka,” she says, as visuals of Ravana’s Cave near Ella town where Sita was believed to be kept are shown. The video also features the Seetha Amman Temple, believed to be the Ashoka Vatika where Sita was held captive.
Another notable mention in the ad is the Ram Setu (Adam’s Bridge), which connects Tamil Nadu to the coast of Sri Lanka. The grandson inquires, “Is the bridge still standing?” to which the grandmother responds, “Yes, you can still see it today.”
The ad also highlights Rumassala Hill, believed by many to be a fragment of the mountain Hanuman carried from the Himalayas to bring the Sanjeevani herb for Lakshman’s healing. The medicinal herbs found on the hill are unique to the region, adding to its mythological significance.
The ad has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), with users praising the airline’s effort to promote spiritual tourism. One user wrote, “What an outstanding advertisement. It will really appeal to so many people to visit Sri Lanka.” Another commented, “Got goosebumps watching it. Our tourism sector needs to learn from this.” Many described it as one of the best airline ads, with one saying, “Highlighting historical sites from the Ramayana, it’s sure to spark curiosity and draw many to explore Sri Lanka’s rich heritage.”
The ad has inspired several to consider Sri Lanka as their next travel destination, with one user commenting, “Sri Lanka will be my next big trip. When I went to Bali, I was mesmerized by its hospitality, beauty, and heritage.”
