Suchitra Krishnamoorthi Faces Backlash for Calling Air India Crash Survivor a 'Liar', Issues Apology
Actor Suchitra Krishnamoorthi has come under fire for accusing Vishwash Kumar Ramesh — the sole survivor of the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad — of faking his story. The June 12 crash claimed at least 274 lives, with Vishwash, a 40-year-old British national, being the only one to make it out alive.
Suchitra stirred controversy after she echoed a social media rumour questioning the authenticity of Vishwash’s survival. In a now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), she suggested he had fabricated his story and even called for punishment if the claims were true.

Her post read:
“So this #vishwaskumarramesh lied about being a passenger on the plane & the only survivor? This is seriously weird… Deserve not only some serious punishment but some mental asylum time if this is true uff.”
The remarks sparked widespread criticism online, with many pointing out that Vishwash’s account had been confirmed by Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and corroborated by his family, who were present for his brother Ajay’s funeral.
Amid growing backlash, the Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa actor removed the post and offered a public apology, writing:
“Took out my last tweet on the Air India crash survivor. Seems to be false news circulated for God knows what reason. My apologies.”

Vishwash, who was seated near an emergency exit in seat 11A of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, managed to escape moments before the aircraft was engulfed in flames. He was treated at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and discharged a week later.
Vishwash and his brother Ajay, both originally from Diu, had flown to India to visit family. Tragically, Ajay did not survive the crash. His funeral took place shortly after Vishwash’s release from the hospital.
The incident highlights the dangers of spreading unverified claims on social media, especially in the wake of national tragedies.
