Sunil Tatkare, the chief of the Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) state unit, declared on Wednesday that his party would run for the Baramati Lok Sabha seat in the next elections.

Tatkare stated that Sunetra Pawar, the spouse of Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister, is expected to run for the seat and that both party members and Baramati residents support her to contest for the Lok Sabha.

Tatkare stated that although the final decision will be made at a meeting to be held soon they will insist on Baramati during their discussions with the BJP and the Sena about seat sharing.

The current MP for Baramati is Supriya Sule, an NCP member (Sharadchandra Pawar) and the cousin of Ajit Pawar.

Tatkare denied rumors that Parth, the son of Ajit Pawar, was running for the Lok Sabha seat from Pune. On Wednesday, the party workers’ meeting was held by the NCP unit in Pune.

Given that he and his brother Anil have no political connections, he claimed it was not surprising that Anil joined the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) faction. Anil Tatkare was designated as the Sharad Pawar faction’s vice president.

Speculators claim that this appointment is an attempt to counter Sunil Tatkare should he be granted a ticket to run from Raigad in the next Lok Sabha election.

Tatkare stated that a Rajya Sabha seat had never really appealed to him. If given the chance, he would like to run for Lok Sabha from Raigad.

He continued by saying that his brother, who had not supported him in the 2014 elections, had also not backed him in the 2019 contest.

Regarding the accusations of betrayal of confidence made by Sharad Pawar’s group, Tatkare stated that they lack the ethical foundation.

Tatkare went on to say that the NCP and the BJP have previously collaborated. The previous NCP leadership attempted to establish connections with the BJP in 2014, 2016–17, and 2019. The leaders of the faction led by Sharad Pawar, who are now blaming them, had agreed to the alliance back then. Why are they now calling into question their morality?

He continued by saying that the speaker had supported their action and that rulings by the Supreme Court and the Election Commission proved his faction’s position to be correct.
