Supreme Court Launches Online Mediation Training Portal To Promote Dispute ResolutionÂ
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday launched a new online mediation training portal aimed at promoting mediation as a preferred mode of resolving disputes. Developed collaboratively by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) over five months, this platform is designed to provide comprehensive mediation training to legal professionals across India.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, along with Justice Sanjiv Khanna, the executive chairman of NALSA, inaugurated the portal. CJI Chandrachud emphasized the need for mediation to become the default method of dispute resolution, stating that the platform would equip lawyers, judges, and law students with essential mediation skills to foster a collaborative legal culture.
Justice Khanna shared insights into the development of the programme, which involved consultations with national and international mediation experts. NALSA member secretary Santosh Snehi Mann noted that the initial focus would be on training judicial officers and experienced lawyers, with plans to refine the programme based on feedback and emerging best practices.
This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to modernize legal education, making expert-curated content accessible remotely. It aims to address India’s growing litigious environment by encouraging alternative dispute resolution and promoting mediation as the first choice for settling disputes.
