While considering a plea from a Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP member seeking immediate intervention to overturn what he claimed to be “oral orders/directions” by the Chief Minister.

MK Stalin asked the police to not allow any kind of puja or live telecast of the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony, the Supreme Court on Monday expressed its confidence that authorities will act in accordance with law and not on the basis of any oral instructions.

The state has been asked by the SC to document its decisions regarding whether to approve or deny such a request, and it has also requested that authorities maintain records of the applications.

According to the plea, on January 20, 2024, Stalin orally instructed the Police Department to forbid any form of Poojas, Archanas, Annadhanam, Live Telecast of Pran Prathishta, Bhajans, and processions in honour of Lord Ram in any and all temples across the State of Tamil Nadu on the occasion of Pran Prathista of Lord Ram at Ayodhya.

The petitioner claimed that in order “to avoid court actions as any written order can be challenged before the Court,” the Tamil Nadu government and the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Department were giving out oral instructions.
