Report Highlights Rising Mental Health Concerns and the Need for Proactive Measures
A recent survey has revealed that only 3% of Indians successfully maintain a healthy relationship with technology, while 50% struggle with a poor digital-life balance. The findings are part of the 2024 State of Emotional Wellbeing Report, which sheds light on the growing mental health challenges in India and the urgent need for intervention.
Key Findings of the Report
The report, published by 1to1help, is based on insights from over 83,000 counseling sessions, 12,000 screenings, and 42,000 assessments. It highlights several concerning trends:

Digital Dependence:Â Only 3% of individuals can balance their screen time effectively, while half of the surveyed population struggles to disconnect from their devices. An additional 10% have an ‘inadequate’ digital balance.
Rise in Mental Health Counseling: There has been a 15% increase in mental health-related counseling, with anxiety, depression, and workplace stress emerging as the leading concerns.
Workplace Challenges: About 23% of employees seeking help reported difficulties in workplace relationships, emphasizing the need for better communication and a psychologically safe work environment.
Shift in Gender Trends: While women traditionally sought therapy more than men, recent trends show a 7% rise in men seeking counseling, marking a significant cultural shift.
Youth Mental Health Crisis: Anxiety and depression are most prevalent among individuals under 30, with 92% of people under 25 reporting anxiety symptoms and 91% showing signs of depression.
Alarming Suicide and Distress Rates
The report also reveals a 22% increase in suicide risk cases and a 17% rise in distress cases compared to 2023. Nearly 50% of individuals seeking counseling are experiencing severe emotional struggles, highlighting the need for accessible and high-quality mental health resources.
