After relentless efforts by both the Pune Pulse and the residents of NIBM - Undri - Mohamadwadi road, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has finally taken action to address the longstanding issues plaguing the road between Palace Orchard and Kad Nagar.

The catalyst for this development was a recent fatal accident that occurred outside Palace Orchard, shedding light on several problems including encroachments, improper road surfacing, a narrow road, unauthorized shops, and an inadequate gradient.

One of the key issues highlighted by Pune Pulse was the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) electricity poles situated in the middle of the road, posing obstacles to motorists and increasing the risk of accidents. The matter was promptly brought to the attention of both PMC and MSEDCL authorities, urging them to take necessary action to ensure road safety and prevent further accidents.

Acknowledging the urgency of the situation, the PMC has initiated the resurfacing of the road, aiming to rectify the existing problems and enhance the overall driving experience for residents and commuters. This step is a result of the continuous follow-up by the vigilant residents and the effective advocacy by Pune Pulse, ensuring that their concerns were heard and acted upon.

The resurfacing project signifies a positive step towards addressing the road-related challenges faced by the Palace Orchard and Kad Nagar communities. It is expected to alleviate issues caused by encroachments, improve road quality, widen the road where possible, remove unauthorized shops, and rectify the problematic gradient.

Lalita Thakur, a resident of NIBM Annexe said, "Thank you Pune Pulse and the PMC for taking proactive measures to prioritize residents safety. This collaborative effort between the community and the authorities serves as an example of how collective action can bring about positive change and improve the infrastructure for the benefit of all." .

In a unique initiative, three women have started a silent reading community called ‘Pune reads’ at Kamala Nehru Park off Bhandarkar Road in Pune on Saturday. The initiative will encourage people to read and relax amidst nature.

Speaking about the initiative Ayush Yembarwar, an avid reader and a WordPress developer said, "A few months back, I was in Bengaluru and there is a similar reading community over there called ‘Cubbon Reads’. So, I loved the initiative. When I came back to Pune, a friend of mine told me about this community. So, being an avid reader myself, I came here and joined this community. The community can help a lot of people start reading or get back into the habit of reading as it provides a comfortable and relaxing space without any compulsions.”

Sonal Dharmadhikari, Aditi Kapadi & Aditi Chauhan, curators of Pune Reads, gave more insights about the entire initiative "Some of our friends in Bengaluru told us about this initiative. We wanted to start the initiative in Pune as well. So, they told us that we can start an initiative called Pune Reads here. Hence, we discussed it for about a week before finalizing a space and timing. We are proud that it commenced today.”

They further added,” We decided to start it in a park because we wanted to make it an open and relaxing activity. We have sat and read in closed places like cafes, libraries etc. My experience with enclosed spaces is people get distracted by other things. Thus, parks are seen as open and free spaces. So, by seeing other people silently read, more people would come and start reading themselves. That's the whole idea."

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Commissioner Shekhar Singh gave instructions to the officials to ensure that there will be no shortcomings in the service and facilities provided for the upcoming Palkhi ceremony of Sant Shrestha Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj.

On this occasion Pradeep Jambhale Patil additional commissioner, Jitendra Wagh, City Engineer Makarand Nikam, Joint City Engineer Shrikant Sawane, Babasaheb Galbale, Manoj Sethia, Pramod Ombhase, Sanjay Khabde, Dyaneshwar Jundhare Executive Engineer Vijaykumar Kale, Ajay Suryavanshi, Thomas Naronha, Dilip Dhumal, Vasudev Mandhare, Bapu Gaikwad and others were present.

Singh also directed the concerned officials to make adequate facilities for drinking water, toilets, stay at Varkari Niwas and along the route. He also directed the officials to complete the pothole filling work on Palkhi Marg as well as Palkhi stay.

As per information, Palkhi Marg starts from Bhakti Shakti in Nigdi where a reception hall is set up by the Municipal Corporation. So, Singh took stock of the arrangements being made there. The palanquin of Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj resides in the Vitthal temple at Akurdi. Thus, Singh also inspected the place and schools where Dindis will reside at Abul Kalam Azad Urdu Secondary School, Vasantdada Patil Primary School in Akurdi.
