A tech professional from Bengaluru has recounted his experience of ordering food through Zomato during a train journey.

Sunny Gupta was traveling on a train from Mumbai to Pune when he opened the Zomato app and noticed a request to input his Passenger Name Record (PNR). Curious about the feature, he chose to place a food order through Zomato.

“Decided to skip ordering from the attendant and give Zomato on the train a chance,” Gupta posted on X.

The tech expert clarified that individuals using Zomato to order food can choose to have it delivered to any forthcoming station. Gupta specifically selected Panvel station as his delivery point.

Zomato has teamed up with IRCTC to offer online food delivery straight to your train seat. You can place orders around the clock from select restaurants, with many available until 2 am for late-night cravings. Additionally, this service is accessible at over 500 railway stations nationwide.

Travelers can place food orders up to four days ahead of time and have the flexibility to cancel their orders at any point before the preparation starts.

Gupta’s screenshot reveals that he requested a meal valued at ₹465 to be delivered directly to his seat on the train from Mumbai to Pune.

“The train is running delayed and Zomato says my food is prepped and waiting at the station. This is probably the first time I am taking revenge on Zomato. The food delivery guy is waiting for me and I’m running late,” says Gupta.

The Bengaluru-based tech enthusiast was generally pleased with the service but raised a concern: the restaurant failed to provide cutlery, even though Zomato’s guidelines specified that customers should receive plates and spoons while traveling on a train.

His experience of ordering food on a train has gained immense popularity, amassing over 800,000 views on X.

He also posted a video of the delivery man bringing him his food.

His post has garnered a range of comments from users.

“This meals on the train by Zomato is really a great feature. I have ordered it many times, better than trains and you get direct hotel-made food which you can choose. Great initiative by Zomato,” added one user.
