Three Civil Services Aspirants Killed in Flooding at Delhi Coaching Centre; Probe Ordered
In a tragic incident, three civil services aspirants lost their lives due to flooding at Rau’s IAS Study Circle on Bada Bazar Marg in central Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar. The incident occurred following heavy rainfall on Saturday evening, which led to the basement of the coaching centre being submerged.
Delhi Fire Services (DFS) chief Atul Garg reported that the fire control room received an emergency call about the flooding at 7 PM. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Harsha Vardhan confirmed that the deceased were two women and one man, identified as Taniya Soni, Shreya Yadav, and Naveen Dalvin, all aged between 25 and 30.
Around 30 students were present at the coaching centre when it began to flood. While 13 to 14 students were rescued and taken to the hospital, others managed to escape. The bodies of the three students were recovered during a joint rescue operation by the police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and DFS in the early hours of Sunday. The bodies have been preserved at a city mortuary for postmortem.

Garg explained that five fire tenders were dispatched to the scene, but rescuers faced challenges due to the waterlogging in the basement and on the road outside the institute. The basement was dark, further complicating the rescue efforts. Two bodies were recovered around 10:30 PM, and the third was found at approximately 1:30 AM.
DCP Vardhan stated that the flooding occurred rapidly due to waterlogging caused by the heavy rain. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the basement flooding.
