Three Pune Metro Stations Set For Renaming
Pune city will see the renaming of three metro stations. The changes come after prolonged requests to modify station names. Pune MP and Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol confirmed this development.
The renaming process is complete, and official gazettes will be issued soon. The affected stations are Budhwar Peth, Mangalwar Peth, and Nashik Phata. Their new names will be Kasba Peth, RTO, and Kasarwadi, respectively. Additionally, the Civil Court station will be renamed Shivajinagar District Court, a change approved by the central government.
Murlidhar Mohol inspected the Swargate Metro Station, an underground multi-modal hub. He assured that it will soon open for passengers, and the Swargate to Katraj route’s foundation stone ceremony will be held shortly.
Pune Metro has two routes. The first, from Vanaz to Ramwadi, is complete with a 15-kilometer stretch finished. The second route, from PCMC to Swargate, is 90 percent complete. Stations like Shivajinagar, Civil Court, and Swargate will open soon after technical approvals. The Kasba Peth and Mandai stations are also finished.
Since the completion of the first phase of Pune Metro in 2022, there have been demands to change station names. Various political parties and social organizations supported the request. The decision to rename the stations marks a significant development in Pune’s metro project.
