The airline, which is expanding its operations, said the fuel charge has been withdrawn with effect from January 4, due to the recent reduction in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices.

IndiGo’s recent announcement brings relief to passengers as the airline eliminates the fuel charge introduced in October 2023, responding to the surge in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices.

This move is in line with the recent reduction in ATF prices, delivering a positive outcome for travellers.

The introduction of the fuel charge, which came at the onset of the peak festival travel season, followed four consecutive monthly hikes in jet fuel prices, taking them to their highest in 2023 by early October. ATF prices have since seen three consecutive reductions. Jet fuel prices have declined nearly 14 per cent since October.

The fuel charge, announced by IndiGo early October, was based on distance slabs and varied between Rs 300 and Rs 1,000 per sector.

As ATF prices remain dynamic, IndiGo assures passengers that the airline will continue to adjust fares and related components to promptly adapt to any fluctuations in fuel prices or market conditions.

ATF is a major cost for airlines and for Indian carriers, it accounts for over 40 per cent of their operational expenses. In India, ATF prices are deregulated and are set in line with global rates. Along with the decline in international crude oil prices, which had touched $97 per barrel in September, jet fuel prices have also cooled down in the international market.

A release from the Airline said that despite the challenges posed by the volatile nature of fuel prices, IndiGo remains steadfast in its commitment to providing affordable, punctual, courteous, and hassle-free travel experiences for its customers. According to the airline, this decision reflects its dedication to customer satisfaction and responsiveness to the evolving aviation landscape.
