Traffic congestion outside schools irks undri citizens

In the last one decade, Undri has developed into the education hub of the city. There are more than 10 top schools in the area, Undri has indeed become a realty hotspot. Unfortunately, the infrastructure in the area remained undeveloped and this is adding to the woes of the commuters.
The congestion is not just causing trouble to commuters, but also to the students and parents of the schools. There are many such pain points in the area which needs desperate attention from the school authorities, parents, private transport authorities, Pune municipal corporation and Pune traffic police.

The traffic jams are also causing great trouble to the residents of the societies nearby schools.
The hotspots where traffic jams happen regularly are near Dorabjee’s Royale Heritage Mall, Pricetown Royal society at Undri junction, Kad nagar chowk, Nyati estate chowk, landmark society near Euro school and main Undri chowk.

A parent complained that younger children find it difficult to stay awake after long hours of school. “The school buses often get stuck outside school for more than half an hour. PMC, traffic police and the school should take steps to resolve the issue,” said a disgruntled parent.

Harshad Datar, a resident of Mohamadwadi said, ” It becomes very difficult to get out of our society during the opening and closing time of the school near Nyati estate. We don’t have any alternate route. Many times, we are stuck in one place for more than 45 minutes. There have been instances when people have not been able to go out even for medical emergencies. Some step has to be taken for the smooth flow of traffic.”

Rajendra Shelke, police inspector, Kondhwa police station said, “It is mandatory for all schools to ensure that the children are picked and dropped within the school premises. It is the responsibility of the parents also to follow traffic rules. I shall survey the area and take some corrective steps to resolve the problem soon.”
