Early Friday morning, December 12, a private bus traveling on the Chinturu-Maredumilli ghat road in Alluri Sitarama Raju district of Andhra Pradesh met with a fatal accident, leaving nine people dead and 22 others injured.

The passengers were on their way from Chittoor to Bhadrachalam to visit the Sri Rama temple when the mishap occurred around 4:30 am near a Durga temple.

The bus, operated by a travel agency from Chittoor district, carried 37 people, including the driver and cleaner. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle lost control while negotiating the sharp curves of the fog-covered hilly road.

Although the bus overturned, it did not fully plunge into the valley and got lodged on the roadside. Six passengers managed to escape unharmed, while four of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.

Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar stated that the driver may have failed to notice a curve due to the dense fog, leading to the accident.

All injured individuals were immediately taken to Bhadrachalam Hospital for treatment. Expressing grief over the tragic loss, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu instructed officials to ensure prompt medical assistance and support for the victims.
