Pune | December 14: In a firm action against the glorification of crime on social media, Pune Police have taken strict measures against two youths who uploaded provocative reels promoting criminal behaviour. The Khadki Police detained the duo, shaved their heads, and made them publicly apologise on camera for creating and circulating content that encouraged crime.

Over the past few months, Pune and surrounding areas have witnessed a rise in serious criminal incidents, including assaults with sharp weapons, murders, and violent clashes. Recently, gang rivalry led to the killing of Ayush Komkar and Ganesh Kale, raising concerns over law and order in the city and district. In response, Pune Police have intensified monitoring and enforcement to curb criminal activities, especially those amplified through social media.

According to police officials, the two youths from the Khadki area had uploaded a reel featuring statements such as “Yerwada jail, two brothers… double destruction… life will be ruined,” which openly glorified criminal life. The video quickly went viral, drawing attention for its provocative language and messaging.

Upon receiving information about the reel, Khadki Police launched a search operation using local intelligence inputs. The youths were traced, taken into custody, and questioned. Police then took corrective action by shaving their heads and compelling them to issue an apology on camera for promoting crime through social media content. A combined video of the action and apology was later circulated to send a strong message of deterrence.

Pune Police have reiterated that strict vigilance is being maintained over social media platforms, and anyone found uploading content that incites violence or promotes criminal behaviour will face decisive action. Authorities have appealed to youths to use social media responsibly and avoid content that can disturb public order or encourage unlawful activities.
